Sun is an MBA, English teacher,
educator, writer, editor, and the gracious CEO of Career Writers Association. This club is an extension of CWA: where writers unite for a positive change.
This group is for all literary enthusiast and writers who love to read and write. If you are reading a good book...share a summary or synopsis with us or vent to us about your frustration after reading a book with a sloppy ending.
Here-writers and readers can share in their wonder and enthusiasm.
Allow us to peek inside your favorite book and/or critique your original novel from start to finish.
One rule: The group members must be honest and straight to the point. This is our time and we should not waste it being obscure or too kind. Critique HONESTLY and post your OWN writings. Okay?
In addition, members please report (or comment) on novels, nonfiction, or fiction, no magazine stories please (unless it's just too outrageously outstanding to keep to yourself). Also post original chapters of your own book and a link where we can buy it or read more about you.
If you need help with selling your original book or short story, we can assist with that too! You have the WRITE stuff to become a member today!
Welcome! Welcome! Welcome!

"It turns out that the old joke about men never wanting to stop and ask for directions is based on this truth-they LOVE figuring things out for themselves. If they can find their way through the hazards of the concrete jungle with only a tattered map and their wits, they feel like they've conquered something...affirmed, excited, encouraged alive...
"Honey can we please just stop and ask for directions"...He's out to conquer Everest, and you're telling him you don't believe he can do it....
When you tell him to ask for directions, you're telling him point-blank that you don't trust him to figure it out for himself."
Excerpt of "For women Only" by Shaunti Feldham

Kate, that was a weird story...
So your friend's husband suggested a pair of shoes for you then his wife got mad and went off on your husband?
What?

:) Sundra.
A few years ago, my husband & I were showing an old friend of mine and his (now ex)wife around town, because he was looking at accepting a position with a company here.
We decided to wander around the Plaza.
We passed a shoe store, and my husband pointed out a pair of shoes that he thought would look good on me.
My friend's wife started going off on my husband about his trying to dictate what I should wear.
Well... Stray was affronted, but I was outraged!
"LADY! Get off your #$%^ fool high horse! He stated an opinion. I value his opinion. I have worked hard against the conditioning of his mother and his EX-wife to get him to be comfortable with stating his opinions to me! So cool it."
I certainly hope Michael married better this time...

WELCOME LISA AND ALL THE NEW MEMBERS! WE ARE SO GLAD YOU DECIDED TO JOIN US!! HEY It's 2009!!!! HAPPY & BLESSED NEW YEAR TO YOU ALL!!!
Bytheway, right now I am reading "For Women Only" by Shaunti Feldham. The subtitle: what you need to know about the inner lives of men....
and IT IS SO WONDERFUL! I'm learning so much about how men think!
p. 27
"Just as our men can choose to demonstrate love toward us even if they don't feel it at the moment, we can and should choose to demonstrate respect.
In fact, the Greek word translated as "respect" in Ephesians, "phobeo" means to be in awe of, to revere. It's not just a matter of bland regard. We are supposed to be highly valuing our men!"

First of all - woww! A place for people who love to read and write. Yeahhh! All my life I've had an insatiable appetite for reading and writing. I used to get in trouble for staying up all night when I was a kid, because I was hiding out under the covers reading with a flashlight! I love words, the sound of them, the "feel" of them and how you can create whole universes with them by a stroke of a pen. When you read, you get to go places you've never been and see some things for the first time. I love to get into the main character and just go there with all my senses to see what it's like.
I generally have three different books that I'm reading at any given time. I like to read whenever I can. This weekend, I started reading a title by J. D. Robb (Nora Roberts), Salvation In Death. My mother got me hooked on this crime novel series. It has a little futuristic component to it plus the intensity and punch of a strong, main female character. before the holidays I consumed An Irish Country Doctor, by Patrick Taylor. It's a "feel good" book with a whole host of colorful and whacky characters as seen through this new country doctor's eyes. The visuals and humor the author creates are fantastic! You want more, you know? I'm also reading, in small chunks, Walter Isaacson's book on Einstein. I love historical biographies!
The biography thing is also getting more personal. I've been researching my family history and learning a lot about genealogy the last couple of years. Growing up, I spent my childhood In Norway. My time there has richly influenced me, and the nature, culture and traditions there have shaped who I've become in amazing ways. Long winters with very little light and virtually no TV gave me fertile ground for my imagination and creativity to soar. What I'm doing now is fleshing out a personal memoir from some of the neat experiences I had growing up. The outline is coming together. The way my mind works during the writing process is that things come to me in my head and start mulling around. After the mulling, it comes together, and then I pour it all out on the paper. I prefer to write some things by hand, as a computer interrupts my flow. But.....Dragon Dictate Naturally Speaking is a great way to solve all that. Just takes some getting used to it. So, for my first post, this would be the short and skinny of it. Words, words words, beautiful, glorious, juicy, succulent words!! It's all good! Look forward to getting to know ya'll!

I'm a CAU alumni too, Terrea. I believe you will do just fine. Remember their motto: FIND A WAY OR MAKE ONE!! I always kept that in mind as I searched for a career...and it was a great motivator...
Check out job boards at local colleges... they might need someone with your skills...they love employing young people. I used to intern for WCLK and CNN.
