BrightFuse Applications

Information for Developers

BrightFuse is creating a platform to allow developers to build applications that run on member profile pages. Our application platform is based on OpenSocial, a common interface for developers to access data across multiple social networks.

If you are interested in creating an app for BrightFuse, you should:

  1. Familiarize yourself with the OpenSocial spec and take a look at the gadget tutorials available.
  2. Read over our development guidelines, important notes, and platform specifics.
  3. Create your gadget!
  4. Get in touch with us. Tell us about your gadget and how it works. Gadgets must be approved by us before they'll appear our application directory.

Guidelines for Development on BrightFuse

When creating your application, keep in mind the following:

  • The application must provide some compelling user value or business-related utility. BrightFuse strives to create an easy, fun, and overall professional experience for our users. Apps that are pure fluff will not get approved.
  • The application must be appropriate for every member of our site.
You are free to target portions of our user base, but not to the extent that you exclude or offend the remaining users.
  • The application must not collect any personal data.
  • The application's content must be original.
  • The application should be browser agnostic.
  • Be decent.
Try not to do anything that will overly annoy your app's users. Try to keep your app free of spelling and grammatical errors. And as much as possible, try to have your app blend nicely into the profile.

Important Notes

BrightFuse is at the beginning stages of OpenSocial implementation, and there are many services and features defined by the spec that we haven't implemented yet. As we move the platform along, more of these services and features will become available to use in your applications. Please be patient with us.

That said, your feedback will determine the features we implement next and the speed at which we do so. If your application needs a service we don't yet have, you should let us know. We want to work closely with you to meet your needs as we continue to develop and define the platform.

There are two ways you can send us your feedback about the platform. The preferred way is by posting to the BrightFuse Application Development group. The second is to send an email to our all-purpose mailbox.
