About Me

Hi, I'm Laura. I am a software engineer, currently working for CareerBuilder.com on their professional networking site, called BrightFuse.com. I am proficient in VB, C#, and in SQL. I'm fairly new to PHP but am coming along nicely. I can also pick up any other language as needed.

I really enjoy software development and have a passion for new ideas. I've been lucky in that all my work experience so far, I've not been forced to choose one role. I get to be a business analyst, architect, designer, and developer at the same time.

Work Experience

  • Apr 2004 - present
    norcross, GA (US)
    Software Engineer III
    CareerBuilder.com
Currently working on our social-networking site, called BrightFuse.com. Prior to this I created the CareerBuilder API, our first REST service (http://api.careerbuilder.com), and a site for CareerBuilder users to have personalized resume profiles (CBWorkSpace, see my portfolio for more info). Over the last 4 years, I've worked on Job Poster Site Projects, Site Projects International, and Corporate Applications teams.

We develop in VB.NET, with SQL, and use agile development methodologies.
  • Apr 2002 - Apr 2004
    norcross, GA (US)
    Web Developer
    Objectware, Inc
Worked on various e-commerce and portal sites. The best project I worked on while there was probably the education portal management software we developed. It was a homegrown framework thats comparable to SharePoint today.

I developed in C#, ASP.NET, and classic ASP while there.

Education

  • Bachelor's - Computer Science
    Georgia Institute of Technology
Within CS, my specializations were in Databases and Networking.

Courses & Certifications

CareerBuilder's Leadership Development Series (LDS), class of 2009 - This is a management development program awarded to a hand-selected group of employees each year. It is a 3-yr-long program, and the curriculum follows that of a typical MBA.

Hobbies & Interests

Outside of work I have three main hobbies: playing volleyball, playing video games, and baking (cupcakes and cookies mainly).
