After receiving my master's degree in psychology I had every intention of continuing my studies and earning my doctorate. Along the way though, I got sidetracked and found myself helping a friend start up his new business. As the director of marketing and advertising for this new company, I helped grow a small mom and pop operation that sold only locally into a mid-size corporation that sold nationwide. Even though my educational background is not in marketing or business, I have found that having a degree in psychology was extremely helpful. Also, the marketing field gave me a chance to utilize my creativity, which I really enjoy. Unfortunately, the economic crisis that hit the country last year had a devastating effect on the industry our company was in and we were forced to cease operations during the beginning of 2009.
Even though I have been working in the business world for the past 11 years, I still have a desire and passion to work in social services/psychology. I realize that it may seem trite and hackneyed to say, but the reason I chose to go into the study of psychology is that I have an exceeding desire to help others. And it is my goal to eventually obtain my doctorate and resume working in the social services arena. In the meantime though, I am confident that I would be very happy in either field; business or psychology. In fact, the possibility of combining those two areas, such as in health care administration, would be an ideal fit for me. I have much to offer, both from my experience as a marketing director and from my educational background in psychology. I am a very creative and caring person who is goal oriented with strong leadership abilities. It is my aspiration to utilize the talents, experience and training that I possess in order to continue to grow and prosper, not only in the workforce, but also in my personal life.
