About Me

Selected Accomplishments

Successfully led Ohio Bureau of Disability
Determination. Former Chief lacked respect of
entire staff. Within three months of assuming
position, gained respect and became resource for
dispute resolution, interpreting SSA policy and
recruiting in-house physicians and outside
vendors.

Resolved most complex cases for Ohio Bureau of
Workers Compensation. Reviewed thousands of
medical files for injured workers. When other
reviewers had questions or could not make
determinations, called upon to deal with and
resolve toughest issues and cases.

Provided insurance evaluations that saved
$millions for Med-Valu client. Reviewed all
cases for National Elevator Industry Workers
regarding questions whether medical services
were necessary. Reviews were well received and
opinions rarely questioned. Facilitated
significant cost savings over ten years.

Developed and managed executive health
assessment for Battelle Institute. Research firm
needed to develop and implement program whereby
key executives received comprehensive health
assessment every two years. Developed protocol.
Performed history and physical exams. Analyzed
testing results. Made recommendations.

Became key resource for Ohio Rehabilitation
Commission counselors. Worked closely with and
directed efforts of more than 100 counselors
interpreting medical information. Enabled them
to better determine eligibility for rehab
services, appropriate vocational goals and
medical and surgical services on behalf of their
clients.

Independent Medical Consultant. Provided
services, concurrently at times, for the
following organizations during the course of my
medical/healthcare career:

Ohio Bureau of Disability Determination/Ohio
Rehabilitation Services Commission, Chief
Medical Consultant, 1980-2008. Responsible for
compliance with Social Security Administration
rules, policies and procedures, recruitment of
physicians and outside vendors and quality of
adjudications and reports. Stepped down as Chief
in 2008 to provide medical case reviews of
SSDI/SSI claims.

Ohio Bureau of Workers Compensation, Medical
File Reviewer, 1992-2006. Assessed percent
impairment based on AMA Guides and generated
report for each injured worker's file reviewed.

Alpha Medical Reviews, Medical Consultant, 2003-
2004. Performed independent reviews for
additionally allowed conditions, aggravation,
appropriateness of planned treatment and
relationship to allowed conditions.

Med-Valu, Medical Consultant, 1993-2003.
Assessed medical necessity for future planned
medical services of personnel of company’s
clients.

I am a 30 plus year member of the Ohio State Medical Association and the Columbus Medical Association. I am an avid automotive mechanic and enthusiast, work with electronic projects and build computers for self, friends and relatives.
